Does pay TV have a bad influence on kids?

Since we got Austar my little brothers have been obssessed with the TV, especially Cartoon Network. Is this something to do with the new range of channels, which they will eventually get bored of, or is the fact that they can flawlessly sing the theme song to any manga, but never play imaginative games, a worry?
