Travel Destinations in Mexico away from tourists?

We are looking for a vacation in Mexico, preferably on the Caribbean or Gulf coast that aren't over-run by tourists. We speak Spanish and have spent lots of time in Mexico before, (Oaxaca and Baja Norte and Sur) so we are familiar with the country. Any ideas?
