How do people smuggle drugs across the border?

Let's see what 3 thousand + miles roads on both side of the border, many towns on both side. Very few police or border guard. Only honest people cross at the legal crossing points. It's been many years but in the good old days I crossed and recrossed the border many times without more than a curtsy stop.
